The Design of Change

For the Fuorisalone in April 2025, the AXYHOTELS InnStyle in Milan will host a new work by the visionary artist Alessia Dionisi. ‘The Stolen Feather’ invites visitors to reflect deeply: we cannot afford to ignore the impact of our actions. The flamingos in her installation, usually a symbol of purity and harmony, are no longer pink, but black, just as the lightness of their feathers is replaced by a rough and heavy lava-stone-like papier-mâché. Next to the flamingos, we find a 1960s design armchair covered in pink feathers: on the one hand symbolizing comfort and beauty, on the other a warning to act responsibly towards our planet.

Just as in the “Connected Worlds” of Fuorisalone 2025, design shows its capacity for renewal, Alessia Dionisi’s ‘The Stolen Feather’ invites us to observe the inevitable changes of the present, which occur when different systems come into contact with one another: nature and artifice, memory and innovation, loss and rebirth.

Can we accept Change without losing the essence of who we are? We are the ones who must reinterpret and preserve the identity of the past within a new context. Just as contemporary design generates spaces and objects that dialogue with a constantly evolving world, Alessia’s ‘The Stolen Feather’ invites us to take note of this metamorphosis and find the answers we seek through the medium of Design.
